The Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet in Bhopal has approved a law for compensation for victims of mob lynching. The 'Mob Lynching Victim Compensation Scheme 2023' will provide relief and rehabilitation for victims and their dependents. The family of a victim killed by a mob will receive a compensation of Rs 10 lakh, while those injured will receive Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Centre and the Manipur government to take steps, including airdropping, to ensure supply of food and essential commodities to people affected by road blockades put up by two ethnic groups but refused to direct armed forces to remove these blockades.
